The correct answer is

Vikram Seth

'A Suitable Boy' (1993) is a novel by Vikram Seth, one of the longest single-volume novels in English. Set in newly independent India in the early 1950s, it follows Mrs Rupa Mehra's search for a suitable husband for her daughter Lata.

Vikram Seth is also known for 'The Golden Gate' and 'An Equal Music' and has received the Sahitya Akademi Award and the Padma Shri.

Salman Rushdie wrote 'Midnight's Children' (Booker Prize 1981), Chetan Bhagat wrote 'Five Point Someone' and '2 States', and Manu Joseph wrote 'Serious Men'.
