A can do a piece of work in 20 days. He worked for 8 days. Then B alone finishes the remaining work in 12 days. In how many days can B complete the whole work alone?
20
Work done by A in 8 days = \(\frac{8}{20}=\frac{2}{5}\).
Remaining work = \(1-\frac{2}{5}=\frac{3}{5}\).
B does \(\frac{3}{5}\) of the work in 12 days, so B’s whole work takes \(12\times\frac{5}{3}=20\) days.
Hence, B alone can complete the whole work in 20 days.
