Which one among the following is not a part of Corporate Social Initiatives ?

UGC NET 2017 Paper 3 Geography Question Paper (05-Nov-2017)
The correct answer is

Corporate ambience building

Option 4 — Corporate ambience building is correct (it is NOT a part of corporate social initiatives).

Corporate Social Initiatives (CSI) are the major activities a firm undertakes to support social causes and to fulfil its social responsibility commitments. In the widely-cited Kotler and Lee classification, these initiatives include cause promotion, cause-related marketing, corporate social marketing, corporate philanthropy, community volunteering and socially-responsible business practices.

Thus socially-responsible business practices, corporate social marketing (using marketing techniques to change a target behaviour, e.g. anti-smoking) and cause-related marketing (linking sales of a product to a donation for a cause) are all recognised categories of corporate social initiatives.

Why Option 4 is the answer: “Corporate ambience building” — improving the internal physical/work environment or office atmosphere — is an internal administrative or facilities matter. It is not a socially-directed initiative aimed at external community welfare or a social cause, so it does not belong to the CSI family.

Takeaway: cause promotion, cause-related and social marketing, philanthropy and responsible practices are CSI; internal ambience building is not.
