Which of the following Sufi Silsilah was founded in Bihar ?
Firdousia
The Firdausi silsilah took root and flourished in Bihar — option 2.
The order. The Firdausiyya is a branch of the Suhrawardi silsilah. It was carried to Bihar in the fourteenth century, and its greatest figure is Sharfuddin Ahmad Yahya Maneri — known as Makhdum-ul-Mulk and as the Makhdum of Bihar — who settled at Bihar Sharif in Nalanda district. His khanqah there became the centre of the order in eastern India, and his tomb at Bihar Sharif is the site of the annual urs.
| Silsilah | Founded or centred | Best known figures |
|---|---|---|
| Chishti | Ajmer, Delhi | Moinuddin Chishti, Nizamuddin Auliya, Amir Khusrau; accepted no state patronage |
| Suhrawardi | Multan, Sindh | Bahauddin Zakariya; accepted state service and wealth |
| Firdausi | Bihar — Bihar Sharif | Sharfuddin Yahya Maneri |
| Qadiri | Baghdad; Punjab and the Deccan in India | Abdul Qadir Jilani; Dara Shikoh followed it |
| Kubrawiya | Central Asia; came to Kashmir | Mir Sayyid Ali Hamadani |
| Qalandariyya | Wandering ascetics, no fixed centre | Bu Ali Shah Qalandar of Panipat |
Maneri’s writings. He is remembered above all for his letters — the Maktubat-i-Sadi, the “Hundred Letters”, written to a disciple and among the finest works of Sufi instruction in Persian; also the Maktubat-i-Do Sadi and collections of his discourses. They were read far beyond Bihar and are still studied.
Why the answer belongs in a Bihar paper. Bihar Sharif took its very name from the vihara that once stood there, and became under the Firdausis a major centre of Islamic learning and devotion — one of the few Sufi orders whose Indian history is centred on the province, which is why this question recurs.
Hence, the answer is Firdousia.
