Which of the following is responsible for triggering formation of other enzymes?
Enterokinase
Enterokinase, also known as enteropeptidase, is secreted by the brush border of the duodenal mucosa. It cleaves the inactive pancreatic zymogen trypsinogen to yield active trypsin.
The trypsin thus produced then autocatalytically activates additional trypsinogen and, more importantly, converts chymotrypsinogen to chymotrypsin, procarboxypeptidase to carboxypeptidase and proelastase to elastase. Therefore trypsin, carboxypeptidase and chymotrypsin themselves are downstream enzymes in this cascade rather than its initiator.
Hence, the enzyme responsible for triggering the formation of the other pancreatic proteolytic enzymes is enterokinase.
