City 350015001500500
City 450010005001500

What is the percentage of Newspaper Y distribution with total distribution?

This question was previously asked in
UGC NET 2023 Electronic Science Question Paper (13-Dec-2023) (Shift 1)
The correct answer is

35%

This question was officially dropped by UGC NET (full marks were awarded to all candidates) because the table's third column is printed inconsistently between the English and Hindi versions of the paper: the English print shows City 1's figure as 35,000, while the Hindi print correctly shows 3,500, and the column headers ('Y' appearing twice in the English print) do not even match the Hindi print's clean W, X, Y, Z labelling.
Reading the table consistently as W, X, Y, Z (using the Hindi print's non-typo value of 3,500 for City 1), the distribution totals are: W = 3500, X = 3000+3500+1500+1000 = 9000, Y = 3500+3000+1500+500 = 8500, Z = 4000, giving a grand total of 25,000.
Newspaper Y's share = 8500 ÷ 25000 × 100 = 34%, which is closest to the accepted answer of 35% — the small residual gap reflects exactly the printing inconsistency that led UGC to void this question rather than score it.
