TV Remote Communication Technology
TV remote controls typically use Infrared (IR) LEDs to send commands to the television. This is a widely adopted technology due to its cost-effectiveness and simplicity.
Why Infrared LED?
- Signal Type: Infrared LEDs emit invisible infrared light pulses. These pulses represent different commands (like changing channels or volume).
- Line-of-Sight: IR communication requires a direct line of sight between the remote and the TV's IR receiver.
- Common Usage: It's the standard technology found in the vast majority of traditional TV remotes for decades.
Other Options Considered
- Laser diode: Lasers are too focused and powerful for this application and are not used in standard TV remotes.
- Bluetooth transmitter: While some modern smart remotes use Bluetooth for connectivity (especially for voice commands or connecting without line-of-sight), it's not the common method for basic TV control signals.
- UV transmitter: Ultraviolet (UV) light is not suitable for remote control communication.
Therefore, the most common technology used by TV remote controls is an Infrared LED.
