Question

The marked price of 55 items was equal to the cost price of 99 items. The selling price of 56 items was equal to the marked price of 35 items. Calculate the profit or loss percentage from the sale of each item.

The correct answer is

12.5% profit

Let the cost price of each item be ₹x. Then, the marked price of each item is ₹99x/55 = ₹1.8x. The selling price of each item is ₹35x/56 = ₹0.625x.

The profit per item is ₹0.625x - ₹x = ₹0.125x, which is 12.5% profit.
