In an election between two candidates, P received 42% of the valid votes and Q won by 45,360 votes. 20% people did not cast their vote. If 10% of the votes cast were found invalid, what is the total number of votes registered in the poll booth?

The correct answer is

3,93,750

Let the total number of votes be V. 20% of V did not cast their vote, so 80% of V cast their vote. Out of this, 10% of the votes were invalid, so 90% of 80% of V were valid votes. The difference between the valid votes for P and Q is 45,360. Solving the equation gives the total number of votes as 3,93,750.
