Question

In Propositional Logic, given P and \(P \to Q\), we can infer __________.

This question was previously asked in
UGC NET 2015 Paper 1 Question Paper (27-Dec-2015)
The correct answer is

\(Q\)

Modus ponens is the inference rule that, from a proposition \(P\) and the implication \(P o Q\), allows us to conclude \(Q\).

\(\sim Q\) cannot be inferred, because \(P\) and \(P o Q\) together force \(Q\) to be true; for the same reason \(P \land \sim Q\) contradicts the premises.

\(\sim P \land Q\) is also impossible, since \(P\) is given as true.

Hence, Q.
