Question

In a certain coded language 'UPEND' is coded as 'AJBLR' and 'AUDIT' is coded as 'QEAQX'. How will 'AIMED' be coded in the same code language?

The correct answer is

AAJEX

Comparing the two given codings shows the rule works on the reversed word: write the letters back to front, then shift each by a fixed pattern of steps.

Reverse UPEND to get DNEPU, and apply the shifts −3, −4, −3, −4, −3: D→A, N→J, E→B, P→L, U→R, giving AJBLR, exactly the given code.

Check it on the second word: reverse AUDIT to TIDUA, apply the same shifts to get T→Q, I→E, D→A, U→Q, A→X, i.e. QEAQX, which also matches.

Now apply the confirmed rule to AIMED. Reversing it gives DEMIA.

Shift the reversed letters by −3, −4, −3, −4, −3: D→A, E→A, M→J, I→E, A→X.

Reading the results in order spells AAJEX, which is present among the options.

The key idea is to test a reverse-then-shift rule that fits both examples before coding the new word.

Hence 'AIMED' is coded as AAJEX.
