UGC NET 2015 Paper 1 Question Paper (27-Dec-2015)
The correct answer is

(A) and (R) both are correct.

Assertion (A): Under perfect competition there is free entry and exit. If firms earn supernormal profits, new firms enter and price falls; if they make losses, firms leave and price rises. In the long run price settles where P = LAC, so every firm earns only normal profit. (A) is correct.

Reasoning (R): Long-run equilibrium of the competitive firm requires P = MR = LMC = minimum LAC, i.e. each firm produces at the lowest point of its long-run average cost curve (optimum size). (R) is correct.

Since price equals minimum average cost, average revenue just covers average cost (including normal profit), which is why only normal profit is earned. So R also supports A, and both statements are correct.

Hence, the answer is (A) and (R) both are correct..
