Distinction between the appearance and reality, sense and thought is given by .................. .
Parmenides
Parmenides of Elea, in his poem, separates 'the Way of Truth' from 'the Way of Opinion (doxa)'. Truth, reached by thought (reason), shows that Being is one, eternal, unchanging and indivisible; the senses present a world of plurality and change that is mere appearance.
He is thus the first Greek thinker to draw a sharp distinction between appearance and reality, and between sense and thought, a distinction later developed by Plato.
Thales (water) and Anaximenes (air) were Milesian cosmologists seeking a material first principle, with no such contrast between sense and reason; Pythagoras made number the principle of things.
Hence, the answer is Parmenides.
