A reservoir is in the form of a cuboid. Its length is 30 m. If 24 kL of water is removed from the reservoir, the water level goes down by 20 cm. What is the width of the reservoir?

The correct answer is

4 m

Volume of water removed = \(24\ \text{kL} = 24\ \text{m}^3\) (since \(1\ \text{kL} = 1\ \text{m}^3\)). This volume equals length × width × fall in level: \(30 \times w \times 0.20 = 24\), so \(6w = 24 \Rightarrow w = 4\ \text{m}\). Hence the width of the reservoir is 4 m.
