Hypertensive disorders are major causes of maternal and fetal morbidity.
Chronic Hypertension: BP ≥140/90 mmHg before pregnancy, before 20 weeks, or persisting >12 weeks postpartum.
Gestational Hypertension: New-onset BP ≥140/90 mmHg after 20 weeks in previously normotensive women, without proteinuria; resolves by 12 weeks postpartum.
Pre-eclampsia: New-onset hypertension after 20 weeks with proteinuria (≥0.3 g/24 h) or end-organ dysfunction (thrombocytopenia, renal/hepatic issues, pulmonary edema, cerebral/visual disturbances).
Eclampsia: Generalized seizures in a woman with pre-eclampsia.
Chronic Hypertension with Superimposed Pre-eclampsia: Worsening hypertension or new proteinuria/end-organ dysfunction in women with pre-existing hypertension.
