Question

An Assertion is a predicate expressing a condition we wish database to always satisfy. The correct syntax for Assertion is :

This question was previously asked in
UGC NET 2015 Paper 1 Question Paper (27-Dec-2015)
The correct answer is

CREATE ASSERTION ‘ASSERTION Name’ CHECK ‘Predicate’

In SQL an assertion is declared as CREATE ASSERTION assertion-name CHECK (predicate); both the name and the CHECK clause are required.

The form without CHECK gives no condition, the comma form has no name, and SELECT ASSERTION is not an SQL statement.

Hence, CREATE ASSERTION ‘ASSERTION Name’ CHECK ‘Predicate’.
