Question

After excluding stoppages, the speed of a bus is 60 kmph and after including stoppages, it is 45 kmph. For how many minutes does the bus stop per hour?

This question was previously asked in
SSC CGL 2017 (Tier 1) Previous Year Paper (16-Aug-2017) (Shift 1)
The correct answer is

15

The bus loses speed because of stoppages. Stoppage time per hour equals the ratio of speed lost to running speed:

\[\text{Stoppage}=\frac{\text{Speed without stops}-\text{Speed with stops}}{\text{Speed without stops}}\times 60\text{ min}\]

\[=\frac{60-45}{60}\times 60=\frac{15}{60}\times 60=15\text{ minutes}\]

Therefore the bus stops for 15 minutes per hour.
