Question

A kite is attached to a string. Find the length of the string (in m) when the height of the kite is 90 m and the string makes an angle of 30° with the ground.

SSC CGL 2020 (Tier-2) Statistics Previous Year Paper 3 (28-Jan-2022)
The correct answer is

180

Given:

Height of the kite = 90 meters

Angle of elevation = 30°

Calculation:

Height of the kite (BC) = 90 meters

Length of the string = AC

Therefore, sin 30° = BC/AC

⇒ (1/2) = 90/AC [∵ sin 30° = 1/2]

⇒ AC = 2 × 90 = 180 meters

∴ The length of the string is 180 meters.
