Question

A classroom wall of size 6 m x 3 m is to be covered using cuboid-shaped foam panels of size 2 m x 1 m x  0.1 m (thickness irrelevant). How many such panels are needed to cover the wall completely?

SSC CHSL 2025 Tier 1 Question Paper (21-Nov-2025) (Shift 1)
The correct answer is

9

Given: the wall measures 6 m by 3 m, and each foam panel covers a face of 2 m by 1 m (its 0.1 m thickness is irrelevant to the covering area).

The area of the wall is \(6 \times 3 = 18\ \text{m}^2\).

The covering area of one panel is \(2 \times 1 = 2\ \text{m}^2\).

The number of panels needed equals the wall area divided by the panel area: \(\frac{18}{2}\).

Carrying out the division: \(\frac{18}{2} = 9\).

Since the 2 m × 1 m panels tile the 6 m × 3 m wall exactly (3 along the 6 m length, 3 along the 3 m height), no panel is wasted.

Hence 9 panels are required to cover the wall completely.
