Question

A and B invest ₹60,000 and ₹90,000 respectively, in a business. After one year, the profit is distributed, including simple interest at 10% per annum on the capital. Total profit, including interest, is ₹25,000. What is A's share?

SSC CGL 2025 Tier 2 Paper 1 Question Paper (19-Jan-2026)
The correct answer is

₹10,000

Step 1 – Compute simple interest on each partner's capital for 1 year at 10% p.a.:

\(\text{SI for A} = 60000 \times 0.10 = 6000\)

\(\text{SI for B} = 90000 \times 0.10 = 9000\)

Total interest paid out \(= 6000 + 9000 = 15000\).

Step 2 – Find the remaining profit to be split in the ratio of capitals:

Remaining profit \(= 25000 - 15000 = 10000\).

Capital ratio \(A : B = 60000 : 90000 = 2 : 3\).

\(\text{A's share of remaining profit} = \dfrac{2}{5} \times 10000 = 4000\)

Step 3 – Add interest to remaining profit share:

\(\text{A's total share} = 6000 + 4000 = 10000\)

Hence A's share is ₹10,000.
