Question

A and B invest ₹50,000 and ₹70,000 respectively in a business. After 1 year, the total profit is distributed including simple interest at 10% per annum on the capital of each partner. If the total profit including interest is ₹18,000, what is A's share of the profit?

This question was previously asked in
SSC CGL 2025 Tier 2 Paper 1 Question Paper (19-Jan-2026)
The correct answer is

₹7,500

Step 1 – compute the simple interest each partner gets:

SI for A \(= 50000 \times \dfrac{10}{100} \times 1 = 5000\)

SI for B \(= 70000 \times \dfrac{10}{100} \times 1 = 7000\)

Total interest \(= 5000 + 7000 = 12000\)

Step 2 – remaining profit (after deducting interest):

\(18000 - 12000 = 6000\)

This remaining profit is shared in the capital ratio 50000 : 70000 = 5 : 7.

Step 3 – A's share of the remaining profit:

\(6000 \times \dfrac{5}{12} = 2500\)

Step 4 – A's total share:

\(\text{Interest} + \text{Profit share} = 5000 + 2500 = 7500\)

Hence, A's share is ₹7,500.
