Young Bengal Movement Inspiration

The Young Bengal movement was a radical reformist movement that emerged in Calcutta (Kolkata) in the early 19th century. It was inspired and significantly influenced by:

• Henry Vivian Derozio: A Eurasian poet and educator, Derozio taught at Hindu College, Kolkata. His teachings encouraged critical thinking, rationalism, and a questioning of traditional religious and social customs. He fostered an environment where students debated issues like women's rights, freedom of the press, and opposition to idolatry and caste distinctions. His followers, often called "Derozians," carried forward these ideals.

While figures like Ram Gopal Ghosh and Krishna Mohan Banerjee were prominent members and leaders within the movement, Henry Vivian Derozio is widely credited as the primary intellectual inspiration behind it.
