Who designed the Indian National Flag in 1921 ?
Pingali Venkayya
At the Congress session held at Bezwada (Vijayawada) in 1921, a freedom fighter from Andhra presented a flag design to Mahatma Gandhi.
This design by Pingali Venkayya had red and green bands representing the two major communities, to which a white band and the spinning wheel were later added on Gandhi's suggestion; it formed the basis of the present tricolour.
Surayya Tyabji is associated with the final 1947 version of the flag adopted by the Constituent Assembly, while Pattabhi Sitaramayya and J.B. Kripalani were Congress leaders, not the 1921 designer.
Hence, Pingali Venkayya.
