Question

Which one of the following assumptions is not included in the James E. Walter Valuation model ?

This question was previously asked in
UGC NET 2015 Paper 1 Question Paper (27-Dec-2015)
The correct answer is

The firm has finite life

Walter's model links dividend policy to share value through the relationship between the internal rate of return (r) and the cost of capital (k): \(P = \frac{D + \frac{r}{k}(E - D)}{k}\).

Its assumptions include: all investment is financed through retained earnings only (no new debt or equity), r and k remain constant, EPS and DPS do not change, and all earnings are either paid out as dividends or reinvested immediately.

The model values the firm as a perpetuity, so it assumes the firm has a perpetual (infinite) life.

Therefore a finite life of the firm is not an assumption of Walter's model.

Hence, the answer is The firm has finite life.
