Magnesium is more reactive toward dilute hydrochloric acid than many other metals. It reacts vigorously, producing hydrogen gas and forming magnesium chloride:
Reaction: Mg(s) + 2HCl(aq) → MgCl₂(aq) + H₂(g)
This makes magnesium one of the more reactive metals with acids.
