The correct answer is

Component Object Model (COM)

OLE (Object Linking and Embedding) is a Microsoft technology that lets a document created in one application contain, or link to, an object produced by a different application, such as an Excel chart embedded inside a Word file.

For linking to work, the client document must be able to locate the server application, activate it, and keep talking to the object it provides. This inter-component communication is handled by an underlying binary standard.

The Component Object Model (COM) is exactly that standard: it defines a language-independent binary interface and identifies every component by a globally unique CLSID (class identifier).

When OLE performs object linking, it uses the CLSID to look up and instantiate the correct server through COM, and the client holds a persistent connection to that server object to fetch or update the linked data.

Binary Large Object (BLOB) indexing is a database concept for storing and locating large binary fields inside a table; it has nothing to do with linking software components.

The Abstract Window Toolkit (AWT) is a Java library for building graphical user interfaces, unrelated to the Windows OLE/COM world.

SMTP is a protocol for transferring email between servers, so it cannot manage object linking between documents.

Because the CLSID-based lookup and the persistent client-server connection that drive OLE are provided by COM, the correct answer is Component Object Model (COM).
