What is the ratio of the combined electricity consumption of Zones Y and Z in Q1 to the combined electricity consumption of Zones U and X in Q3 ?

The correct answer is

11 : 10

A ratio of two totals is found by adding each group’s values and then reducing the fraction to its lowest terms.

Step 1 — Q1 consumption of Y and Z = \(240 + 200 = 440\) MWh.

Step 2 — Q3 consumption of U and X = \(180 + 220 = 400\) MWh.

Step 3 — Ratio = \(\frac{440}{400} = \frac{11}{10}\), i.e. 11 : 10.

12 : 13, 17 : 15 and 15 : 13 would need totals in those proportions, which the table does not give; for example 17 : 15 would require 440 to be compared with about 388 MWh.

11 : 10 option is correct.
