Question

Which of the following best describes the velocity-time graph for an object moving with uniform velocity?

This question was previously asked in
RRB JE 2025 CBT 2 Mechanical and Allied Engg Question Paper English (2-Jul-2026) (Shift-1)
The correct answer is

A straight horizontal line parallel to the time axis

In a velocity-time (v-t) graph:

  • The y-axis represents velocity; the x-axis represents time.
  • For uniform (constant) velocity: velocity does not change with time.
  • Therefore, the graph is a straight horizontal line parallel to the time axis.

The slope of a v-t graph = acceleration. A horizontal line has zero slope → zero acceleration → uniform velocity. ✓

Other graph shapes: sloping upward = uniform acceleration; curved = non-uniform acceleration; starting from origin sloping up = uniformly accelerated from rest.
