Article 19 of the Constitution originally guaranteed seven fundamental freedoms to citizens, including the right to acquire, hold, and dispose of property.

The 44th Constitutional Amendment Act, 1978, removed the right to property from the list of fundamental freedoms under Article 19, converting it instead into a legal right under Article 300A.

As a result, Article 19 currently guarantees six fundamental freedoms to citizens, such as freedom of speech and expression, assembly, association, movement, residence, and profession.
