Question

Two trains, each 250 m in length, are running on parallel lines in opposite directions at speeds of 90 km/h and 60 km/h respectively. In how many seconds will they cross each other completely?

This question was previously asked in
RRB NTPC 2024 Undergraduate CBT 1 Question Paper (29-Aug-2025) (Shift 1)
The correct answer is

12 seconds

The correct answer is Option 2 i.e. 12 seconds.

Length of each train = 250 m

Total length to cross = 250 + 250 = 500 m

Speeds = 90 km/h and 60 km/h

Relative speed = 90 + 60 = 150 km/hr

⇒ 150 × 5/18 = 750/18 m/sec

Time = 500/(750/18) = (500 × 18)/750 = 12 seconds
