The Relation

Vendor Order (V_no, V_ord_no, V_name, Qty_sup, unit_price)

is in 2NF because :

UGC NET 2015 Paper 1 Question Paper (27-Dec-2015)
The correct answer is

Non_key attribute V_name is dependent on V_no which is part of composite key

Here the composite key is (V_no, V_ord_no), while V_name, Qty_sup and unit_price are non-key attributes.

V_name depends only on V_no, which is a part of the composite key; this is a partial dependency, and it is exactly the property that decides the 2NF status of this relation.

Qty_sup and unit_price are not key attributes, and V_name does not depend on Qty_sup, so the other three statements describe dependencies that do not exist.

The relevant reason is therefore the dependency of V_name on V_no alone.

Hence, Non_key attribute V_name is dependent on V_no which is part of composite key.
