The Mathura School of Art flourished during which period?
Kushan
Kushan is correct.
The Mathura School of Art developed on the banks of the Yamuna around Mathura and reached its peak under the Kushan rulers, especially Kanishka, in the 1st to 3rd centuries CE. It was an indigenous style that used spotted red sandstone and produced early images of the Buddha, Jain Tirthankaras and Hindu deities, with a strong, fleshy and cheerful appearance.
The Kushans patronised both the Gandhara and Mathura schools at the same time. Mauryan art is known for polished stone pillars such as the Sarnath lion capital, the Gupta period saw the later refined Sarnath style, and the Chola period is famous for bronze sculptures such as the Nataraja. So the Mathura School flourished during the Kushan period.
