Work Experience
Gandhiji's Basic Education (Nai Talim, 1937) was built around productive, craft-centred work through which children would acquire knowledge and skills.
The Kothari Commission (1964-66) adapted this idea as 'Work Experience', which it defined as participation in productive work in school, at home, in a workshop, on a farm or in a factory, and recommended it as an integral part of general education at all stages.
Technical education, compulsory English and religious education were not ideas taken from Basic Education; the Commission in fact recommended the three-language formula and education in moral and spiritual values rather than religious instruction.
Hence, the idea borrowed from Gandhiji's Basic Education System is Work Experience.
