Terrorism in India manifests in multiple forms, posing a complex internal security challenge. The most persistent is cross-border terrorism, primarily from Pakistan, which has resulted in major attacks like the 2008 Mumbai and 2019 Pulwama incidents. The hinterland has witnessed sporadic attacks linked to religious extremism. Certain regions, like Jammu & Kashmir and parts of the Northeast, have faced long-standing ethno-nationalist insurgencies. Additionally, Left-Wing Extremism (LWE) in central India targets security forces and infrastructure to violently overthrow the state.

To counter these threats, India has adopted a robust strategy. This includes strengthening legal frameworks like the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and establishing specialized bodies like the National Investigation Agency (NIA). Intelligence gathering and coordination have been enhanced through the Multi-Agency Centre (MAC). Security forces are continuously modernized, and border management has been tightened. India also pursues international cooperation to counter terror financing and global terrorist networks.
