Question

What is the primary purpose of anodising aluminium?

RRB Group D 2024 Question Paper PDF (21-Dec-2025) (Shift 2)
The correct answer is

To enhance its corrosion resistance and appearance

Aluminium naturally forms a thin oxide layer (Al₂O₃) on its surface that provides some corrosion protection. Anodising is an electrolytic process that thickens this oxide layer artificially, making it much harder, durable, and corrosion-resistant. The porous oxide can also be dyed to give the surface a decorative finish.

Anodising does not make aluminium softer, does not increase its reactivity with acids (the oxide layer actually protects it), and does not improve electrical conductivity.

The correct answer is : To enhance its corrosion resistance and appearance.
