The Union Cabinet approved the development of the first module of the Bharatiya Antariksh Station (BAS-01) on 18 September 2024 as part of the expanded Gaganyaan Programme.

The first module is scheduled to be launched by December 2028 on an LVM3 rocket. The complete five-module space station is targeted to become operational by 2035.
