Question

Find the part of the sentence that contains an error:

Despite the team's (1)/ well-thought strategy (2)/ their efforts lacked (3)/ coordination and consistent. (4)

This question was previously asked in
SSC Selection Post 2025 Graduate Level Question Paper (29-Aug-2025) (Shift 1)
The correct answer is

(4)

The verb lacked takes objects joined by and: "lacked coordination and ______". Items joined by and must be in the same grammatical form (parallel structure).

Coordination is a noun, but consistent is an adjective. The noun form consistency is needed: "their efforts lacked coordination and consistency."

The first three parts ("Despite the team's", "well-thought strategy", "their efforts lacked") form an acceptable structure; the fuller expression is well-thought-out, but the error the sentence is built around lies in the last part.

Hence, the answer is (4), "coordination and consistent".
