During a sale, 50% of the goods are sold at 21% profit, 30% of the remaining goods are sold at 43% profit and the still remaining goods are sold at a loss of 17%. If there is an overall profit of x%, then what is the value of x?
11
Taking total goods as 100 units: 50 units sold at 21% profit, 30% of the remaining 50 (=15 units) at 43% profit, and the remaining 35 units at 17% loss.
Overall profit: \(50\times0.21 + 15\times0.43 + 35\times(-0.17) = 10.5+6.45-5.95 = 11\).
Hence, the value of x is 11.
