UPSC CSE 2020 (Prelims) CSAT Previous Year Paper (04-Oct-2020)

Potential GDP represents the maximum level of output an economy can sustain over the long term without triggering inflation. It is determined by the supply-side factors of the economy: the size and quality of the labor force, the amount of capital stock, the level of technology, and overall productivity.

India has been unable to realize its full potential GDP due to several persistent challenges. Key inhibiting factors include significant infrastructure bottlenecks, especially in energy and logistics. Our human capital is constrained by issues in education, skill development, and public health.

Furthermore, a low female labor force participation rate, complexities in the regulatory and tax environment, and distress in the agricultural sector, which employs a large portion of the workforce, all act as drags on our economic potential. Overcoming these hurdles is crucial for achieving sustained high growth.
