Question

Consider the following two statements :

(a) A publicly derived class is a subtype of its base class.

(b) Inheritance provides for code reuse.

Which one of the following statements is correct ?

This question was previously asked in
UGC NET 2015 Paper 1 Question Paper (27-Dec-2015)
The correct answer is

Both the statements (a) and (b) are correct.

Public inheritance models an is-a relationship: a publicly derived object can be used wherever a base object is expected, so the derived class is a subtype; (a) is correct.

A derived class reuses the data members and member functions of its base class without rewriting them, so (b) is correct as well.

Hence, Both the statements (a) and (b) are correct.
