Question

A, B and C invest to start a restaurant. The total investment was Rs. 3 lakhs. B invested Rs. 50,000 more than A and C invested Rs. 25,000 less than B. If the profit at the end of the year was Rs. 14,400 then what is C's share of the profit (in Rs)?

SSC CGL 2017 (Tier 1) Previous Year Paper (16-Aug-2017) (Shift 1)
The correct answer is

4800

Step 1 — Set up investments: Let A = x. Then B = x + 50000 and C = B − 25000 = x + 25000.

\[x + (x+50000) + (x+25000) = 300000 \implies 3x = 225000 \implies x = 75000\]

So A : B : C = 75000 : 125000 : 100000 = 3 : 5 : 4.

Step 2 — C's share:

\[\text{C's share} = \frac{4}{12}\times 14400 = \mathbf{Rs.\ 4800}\]
