TNTET Exam Pattern 2020: TNTET, the state level exam, is conducted at two levels - Paper 1 (Primary stage) and Paper 2 (Elementary stage). Both the papers are conducted in offline mode. There are 150 objective type questions in each paper of TNTET 2020 to be attempted within 3 hours.

  • TNTET 2020 Paper 1 will be held on June 27 while Paper 2 will be conducted on June 28, 2020
  • Paper 1 consists of 5 sections while Paper 2 consists of 4 sections. Check TNTET 2020 Syllabus
  • No negative marking is applicable in the exam.

TNTET Exam Pattern 2020

Teachers Recruitment Board conducts TNTET exam for determining the eligibility of candidates for the post of Primary and Elementary level teachers only for schools in the state of Tamil Nadu. Given below is a detailed paper pattern for the exam:

Mode of Exam

  • Offline i.e. Pen-paper based test.
  • Each candidate will be allocated their own OMR sheet.
  • Make sure to check that the seal of the sheet is not broken before starting the exam. 

Nature of Questions

  • The questions in both the papers will be objective in nature.
  • This means, all the questions in TNTET 2020 will be of Multiple Choice type (MCQs), having 4 choices.
  • Candidates must select the most appropriate answer.
  • The duration of Paper 1 and 2 is 3 hours each.

Total Questions | Sections

  • Both the papers will have 150 questions each.
  • Paper 1 will have 5 sections while Paper 2 will have 4 sections
  • No restriction to move to and fro among the sections.
  • All the questions are compulsory to attempt.

TNTET Syllabus for Paper I

  • Child Development and Pedagogy will focus on Educational Psychology of Teaching and Learning, pertinent to 6-11 years of age group.
  • Language I will focus on the competencies relating to the medium of instruction. The candidate is required to choose any one of the languages (Tamil/Telugu/Malayalam/ Kannada/Urdu). For recruitment, the candidates shall be eligible for the vacancies in the concerned medium only.
  • Language II English will focus on the elements of language, communication and comprehension abilities.
  • Mathematics and Environmental Studies will focus on the concepts, problem-solving abilities and pedagogical understanding of these subjects.
  • The questions asked in the TET Paper I will focus on the topics mentioned in the syllabus of the State for Classes I – V, but their difficulty level and the linkages will be up to the Secondary Stage.

TNTET Paper 2 will have 4 sections. Candidates will have to choose between Mathematics & Science and Social science.

TNTET Syllabus for Paper II

  • Child Development and Pedagogy will focus on Educational Psychology of Teaching and Learning, pertinent to 11- 14 years of age group. 
  • Language-I will focus on the competencies relating to the medium of instruction. The candidate is required to choose any one of the languages (Tamil/Telugu/Malayalam/Kannada/ Urdu). For recruitment, the candidate shall be considered for the vacancies in the concerned medium only.
  • Language II - English will focus on the elements of language, communication and comprehension abilities.
  • Mathematics and Science / Social Science will focus on the concepts, problem-solving abilities and pedagogical understanding of these subjects.
  • The questions asked in Paper-II will focus on the topics mentioned in the syllabus of the State for Classes VI-VIII, but their difficulty level and the linkages will be up to the Senior Secondary (Higher Secondary ) Stage.

TNTET Marking Scheme 2020

  • A uniform marking system is followed in the exam i.e. for Paper 1 and 2, each correct answer carries + 1 mark.
  • As per the revised exam pattern of TNTET exam, there is no negative marking for any unanswered or incorrect answer.
  • Hence, instead of skipping a question, one can use their calculated guess and mark the answer.

Hi Sowmiya, sorry but you are not eligible for this exam as candidate must have passed B.Ed/B.El.Ed along with their graduation. You may check the Eligibility Criteria for this exam in detail from here.

Hi Rathika, you can check the syllabus of the exam and if it is there in the old edition then there is no requirement for the new ones.
