TNTET Eligibility 2026: Check Age Limit & Other Qualifications

TNTET 2026 Paper 1(Classes 1-5)

Candidate appearing for TNTET Paper 1 must have any one of the following qualifications:

1. Higher Secondary (or equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed/appearing in the final year of 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed.).
2. Higher Secondary (or equivalent) with at least 45% marks and passed/appearing in the final year of 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed.), under NCTE Regulations, 2002.
3. Higher Secondary (or equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed/appearing in the final year of the 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.).
4. Higher Secondary (or equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed/appearing in the final year of a 2-year Diploma in Education (Special Education) recognized by RCI.

Additional Notes:

• Candidates with D.Ed. (Special Education) must undergo an NCTE-recognized 6-month special programme in Elementary Education after appointment.
• D.T.Ed./D.El.Ed.Ed. from states other than Tamil Nadu requires an evaluation certificate from TRB.
• Only NCTE-recognized D.El.Ed. or RCI-recognized Special Education diplomas are valid.
• Final-year students of approved teacher education courses are eligible, but TET certificate will be issued only after passing and submitting proof.

TNTET 2026 Paper 2 (Classes 6-8)

Candidate appearing for TNTET Paper 2 must have any one of the following qualifications:

1. Graduated and passed/appearing in the final year of the 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education.
2. Graduation with at least 50% marks and passed/appearing in the final year of B.Ed.
3. Graduation with at least 45% marks and passed/appearing in the final year of B.Ed., as per NCTE norms.
4. Higher Secondary (or equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed/appearing in the final year of 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.).
5. Higher Secondary (or equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed/appearing in the final year of a 4-year B.A./B.Sc. Ed. or B.A.Ed./B.Sc.Ed.
6. Graduation with at least 50% marks and passed/appearing in the final year of B.Ed. (Special Education).
7. Any candidate who has qualified B.Ed. A programme recognized by NCTE is eligible.
8. Candidates with B.E. + B.Ed. are eligible only for Mathematics and Science optional subjects.
