Staff Selection Commission (SSC) recruits the General Duty (GD) constables and Riflemen, via a national-level examination, known as the SSC GD Exam. The frequency of how many times the exam takes place during the year is not fixed. This exam is useful for recruitment of the General Duty Constables, for the following forces:

  1. Border Security Force (BSF)
  2. Central Industrial Security Force (CISF)
  3. Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF)
  4. Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP)
  5. Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB)
  6. National Investigation Agency (NIA)
  7. Secretariat Security Force (SSF)

SSC GD Recruitment Process

The following are the steps involved in the recruitment process of SSC GD:

  1. Filling the online application form, when the notification is published for the posts.
  2. SSC GD Computer Based Exam (CBE) is uploaded on the SSC website and can be downloaded from there to attend the exam.
  3. Those candidates that clear the CBE are called for the Physical Efficiency Test (PET) or the Physical Standard Test (PST).
  4. After clearing the PST / PET, the candidate is called for a Detailed Medical Examination (DME). If the candidate clears it, then it is okay. If not so, then the candidate needs to go for a Review Medical examination (RME).
  5. After clearing the Medical Exam(s) as well, the candidate is eligible to be selected, if the commission recommends on the official website for the same. This result comprises an aggregate of the performance of the candidate in all the above-mentioned recruitment process’ steps.

Ques. What is the minimum eligibility criteria for the SSC GD Exam?

Ans. The candidate should be an Indian National, with age between 18 to 23 years of age, and should have completed class 10th Examination from a recognised board. The age relaxation is for the following category of candidates:

  • SC/ST - 10 years,
  • OBC - 3 years,
  • A person with Disabilities (General) - 5 years,
  • A person with Disabilities (OBC) - 8 years,
  • Ex-Servicemen - 3 years,
  • Domiciled in Jammu & Kashmir from 1st January 1980 to 31st December 1981 - 5 years.

Ques. What is the mode of application, application fees and the examination mode for SSC GD Exam?

Ans. The application mode and the examination are both to be completed online only. The application fees are INR 100/- for general and OBC category, while female and SC/ST/Ex-Servicemen candidates are exempted from any application fee.
