RRB ASM Exam Pattern: Check Previous Paper Structure

Under the 2016 RRB NTPC recruitment, ASM candidates appeared for a common Computer Based Test. The first-stage CBT had 100 objective questions to be attempted in 90 minutes.

Particulars Details
Exam Mode Computer Based Test
Total Questions 100
Duration 90 Minutes
Subjects General Awareness, Arithmetic, General Intelligence & Reasoning
Negative Marking 1/3 Mark
Further Stage CBT-II and Aptitude Test

The second-stage CBT had 120 questions in 90 minutes. Candidates shortlisted for ASM were also required to appear for an Aptitude Test.

RRB ASM Changes: From ASM to Station Master

The Assistant Station Master (ASM) post was later upgraded and merged with the Station Master (SM) post. Therefore, recent RRB notifications recruit candidates under the Station Master designation through the RRB NTPC Graduate examination.

The current Station Master selection generally includes:

  • CBT-I
  • CBT-II
  • Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT)
  • Document Verification and Medical Examination

Candidates should use old RRB ASM papers for practice but follow the latest RRB NTPC notification for the current syllabus and exam pattern.

Why Solve RRB ASM Previous Year Question Papers?

RRB ASM previous papers can still be useful even though the post is now recruited as Station Master. They allow candidates to practise railway-specific aptitude and general ability questions while becoming familiar with the level of earlier RRB examinations.

  • Understand Previous Exam Trends: Analyse the types and difficulty levels of questions asked in earlier RRB ASM examinations.
  • Strengthen Important Topics: Identify frequently tested concepts from Mathematics, Reasoning and General Awareness.
  • Improve Speed and Accuracy: Attempting full papers within the prescribed time helps improve question-solving speed.
  • Practise Negative Marking Strategy: Candidates can learn when to attempt or skip questions to minimise unnecessary negative marks.
  • Useful for Station Master Preparation: Old ASM papers remain useful supplementary practice material for candidates targeting present-day RRB Station Master recruitment.
  • Track Pattern Changes: Comparing older ASM papers with current NTPC papers helps candidates understand how the RRB examination structure has evolved.
