Which of the following processes in plants are responsible for fulfilling the energy and carbon requirements?

This question was previously asked in
RRB Group D 2025 Question Paper (18-Aug-2026) (Shift 1)
The correct answer is

Photosynthesis

Photosynthesis is the process by which green plants use sunlight to convert atmospheric carbon dioxide and water into glucose. This single process satisfies both requirements at once: it supplies the plant with carbon (fixed from CO2 into carbohydrate) and stores the sun’s energy in the chemical bonds of that glucose, which the plant later uses for growth and repair.

Transpiration is only the loss of water from leaves and does not add energy or carbon. Respiration releases energy from glucose but it consumes carbon compounds rather than fulfilling the carbon requirement. Translocation just moves food and minerals through the phloem; it does not create energy or carbon.

Hence, the answer is Photosynthesis.
