Which of the following is an approximate year (in BCE) of birth of Gautama Buddha?
560
Gautama Buddha, the founder of Buddhism, was born as Siddhartha Gautama into the Shakya clan at Lumbini, in the Nepal Terai near the present India-Nepal border.
His life is traditionally placed in the sixth century BCE, and his birth is commonly dated to an approximate year around 563 to 560 BCE.
Among the four options given, 560 BCE is the value that best matches this widely accepted approximate date.
The remaining years, 432, 361 and 263 BCE, all fall well after the traditional dates of his birth and life.
The year 263 BCE, for example, lies close to the reign of Emperor Ashoka, who ruled the Mauryan empire roughly two to three centuries after the Buddha and later spread his teachings.
Since the question asks only for an approximate birth year, the closest correct choice is 560 BCE.
Hence the correct answer is 560.
