Which novel by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee features the historic song “Vande Mataram” ?
Anandamath
Bankim Chandra Chatterjee was a major Bengali novelist of the nineteenth century. The song “Vande Mataram” was written by him in the 1870s and later included in one of his novels published in 1882.
That novel is set against the Sannyasi rebellion of the late eighteenth century, and the song is sung by the rebel monks as a hymn to the motherland. It became a rallying cry of the freedom movement, and in 1950 its first two stanzas were adopted as the National Song of India.
Devi Chaudhurani, Kapalkundala and Bishabriksha are other novels by the same author, but none of them contains this song.
Hence, Anandamath.
