The sum of a non - zero number and twenty times its reciprocal is 9. What is the number?

The correct answer is

5

Let the number be y.

According to the statement of the question,

⇒ y + 20/y = 9

⇒ y2 - 9y + 20 = 0

⇒ (y - 5) (y - 4) = 0

The desired number is 5, which satisfies the above condition,

∴ The value of the number is 5.
