Question

The relation between focal length 'f'‚ object distance 'u' and image distance 'v' in the case of reflection of light by a spherical mirror is given by_______.

RRB NTPC 2024 Undergraduate CBT 1 Question Paper (29-Aug-2025) (Shift 1)
The correct answer is

1/f = (1/u) + (1/v)

The correct answer is  option  2 I.e. 1/f = (1/u) + (1/v).

The relation between focal length (f), object distance (u), and image distance (v) for a spherical mirror is given by the mirror formula:

1/f = ( 1 / u) + ( 1 / v)

oxed{ rac{1}{f} = rac{1}{v} + rac{1}{u} }
Note: Sign convention is important:

  • Distances are measured from the mirror's pole.

  • Object distance (u) is usually negative.

  • Image distance (v) and focal length (f) can be positive or negative depending on the mirror type (concave or convex).
